Operation Rice Bowl

Churches throughout the Diocese of Scranton participate in this program. This Lenten Practice of Prayer and Sharing with the poor overseas is sponsored by Diocesan Catholic Relief Services.

 

Lenten Regulations

Ash Wednesday: A day of Fast and Abstinence
-Abstinence – No meat may be eaten by anyone who has reached the age of 14.
-Fast – Those from 18 to 59 years of age may eat only one full meal and two partial meals with nothing between meals unless excused for medical reasons.

Fridays of Lent: Days of Abstinence – No meat may be eaten by anyone over age 14.

Good Friday: Days of Fast and Abstinence – Same as Ash Wednesday
